Winter is coming; time to chill

November 10, 2013

Last week Halloween marked the beginning of the holiday season. Leaves are falling, temperatures are dropping, and Christmas decorations are slowly popping up around the country. The semester has flown by and soon it will be time for final tests and projects. For the last several months students have worked hard but with winter coming it’s time to chill.

Holiday breaks are designed to give students a reprieve. While it is not wise to spend the entire time off vegging out on the couch in front of the television, it is important for students to let their minds and bodies rest after a long hard semester. Taking a break from school enables students to come back next semester revitalized, recharged, and ready to take on new challenges.

Not all students are able to enjoy a winter break. For those students, it is important to find time to rest in-between their obligations. Whether it is squeezing in a quick cat nap or reading a book for pleasure, students who take moments of respite will perform better in the long run.

Ideas to Maximize Your Winter Break

1. Spread out any readings or catch-up work over the entire break.
2. Spend quality time with family and friends.
3. Sleep schedules shouldn’t be thrown out the window.
4. Schedule in “me-time”.
5. Save worrying about the new semester until 2014.
