-Excerpt from High School Prep Genius-

Organization is essential to high school success. The amount of required homework increases significantly every semester. That’s not to mention the increased opportunities for afterschool activities. From football to the drama club, high school is a wonderful place for students to try new things. Even if you do not go to a traditional high school, there is still a wealth of activities in the community you can, and should, get invovled in. However, more classes plus more opportunities for extracurricular activities can creat a hectic schedule, and if you are not careful, it can be the cause for slippling grades. This doesn’t have to happen. Although there may be a lot of stuff on your plate during this time, if you are diligently organized, you can keep yourself from being overwhelmed.

Drive your schedule- instead of having your schedule drive you- by keeping everything organized. Although everyone is different and some things won’t work for everyone below are three practical tips to hlep you organize your academic life. By learning how to organize a schedule now, you will save yourself a lot of stress throughout high school, college, and your career.

1. Have notebooks that correspond with your class schedule: Keep together all the information that goes together. This will save you time and hassle when you are looking for your notes or handouts for homework and tests.

2. Buy a day planner, or at least utlize the one on your computer, smartphone, or tablet: Having a day planner is an important step in keeping all your obligations straight. It will allow you to write down all your club meetings, volunteer commitments, and hangout sessions while ensuring you never overbook yourself.

3. Break it all down into manageable chunks: There is no rule that says you have to complete an entire assignment in one day. If you have a lot of reading due for a class and a couple of days to complete it, then divide the pages over the days and read a little at a time.
